Watching It Snow with Tim ... Holtz January Tag for 2016

Hi everyone!  I'm back with my version of Tim Holtz's January "Technique Remix" tag.   For many of you here in the US, you know we had a major snow storm hit the East Coast.  While it snowed, I celebrated the beauty of the falling snow with this tag.

Although the snow was a headache for many, I loved it.  We got about a foot of snow by the end on Saturday evening!  Here is a quick peak at what it looked like here in NC.

Oh how I loved making this tag.   Tim's theme this year is taking two previous techniques that he has used on previous tags and combining them to make something new.  Love this idea!!!  And what a way to start ... using two of my favorite techniques:  Chalkboard and Industrious Metal.  If your are new to one or both of these techniques, Tim gives a step-by-step blog tutorial on how he created his own tag using the chalkboard techniques ( used on the large snowflake in the middle of my tag) and the Industrious Metal technique (used on my tag's background).

The top part of my tag's Industrious Metal background was created with the snowflake embossing folder from Tim's  "Seasonal Stuff" Sizzix Texture Trades.  After I completed the technique, I added the black and silver snowflakes and "in a winter wonderland" sentiment from Tim's Chistrmastime and Gilded Holiday Remnant Rubs.  A black ribbon and one of Tim's snowflake  Idea-ology Adornments really topped off the whole celebration of snow quite well.

The bottom part of my Industrious Metal backgound is a little different from Tim's.  And yes ... it was done by accident.  Instead of embossing the snowflakes using the Christmas snowflake border folder, I flipped the folder the "wrong" way and ended up debossing the snowflakes.  I followed Tim's lead, embraced my imperfection, and used it anyway.  I applied the Industrious Metal technique to the debossed images and I love it!!  It really made a strong border for the bottom of the tag.

I used Tim's snowflake Christmas Blueprint stamp to do his Chalkboard technique (such an amazing technique!!)  I spent a little time fussy cutting out the middle part of another copy of his blueprint snowfake, adding some Clear Rock Candy Stickles from Ranger in the center (to give it a little sparkle) and adhered it to the original chalkboard snowflake with foam squares.  Great dimensional effect.  I've been holding onto the "let it snow" wordband from Tim's retired Christmas wordband collection for a very special tag and this is "the one".  I used some of his Naturals Black and Cream Trimmings to attach it to the tag and c'est fini!

That's it!  I apologize for  being such a poor friend here in crafty blogland.  I basically hit some "burn-out" at the end of December with some health problems (nothing major), the death of a favorite uncle, and just simple exhaustion.  I did some healing and resting in my craft room, but just didn't make it online very much.  Please forgive me :)  I hope to be back on a regular basis in the weeks to come.

Hugs to you all.  Mary Elizabeth

Very cool tag! I'm totally down with the debossed flakes... I recently got a Cuttlebug from a generous friend, and I love both embossed and debossed outcomes! What a happy accident for you. Love the snow theme.

An absolutely stunning take on the January tag - and very clear from those photos where you got your inspiration! I know the snow has caused huge trouble for many, but it also has great beauty - the wonder of nature is in its beauty and its terror.

So sorry to hear about your December burn-out... I hope you'll find new energy with the new year (or at least when spring arrives - that's usually when my hibernation winds down!).

I'm heading NYC-wards again at the end of March, and am around for six weeks - just thought I'd mention it!

I really, really love your tag Mary Elizabeth, the chalkboard technique worked so beautifully for you and I do love the embossed and debossed elements, a very clever happy accident! The snowflake theme was perfect for you with your recent snowfall too! Your photo of the snow is wonderful!

I do understand about the burnout, as an RA sufferer I have struggled over the holiday season too. Thank you so much for your lovely comment on my tag, it really lifted my spirits! Hugs, Anne xxx

I adore your snowy tag the theme has worked so well with both the chalkboard and the industrial techniques and how lovely to have had such a gorgeous covering of the real thing, we haven't seen any this winter.
